Ivey scores podium in Early Bird 50; flat tire dooms Blue/Gray 100 outing
On Friday evening, Trent Ivey ventured into a busy weekend of racing at Needmore Speedway (Norman Park, Ga.) for the Crate Racin' USA-sanctioned Early Bird 50.
With qualifying and heat races slated for Friday, Ivey laid down the second-fastest lap in his group and went on the score the victory in his heat race.
For Saturday's $10,000-to-win main event, Trent ran inside the Top-5 for most of the event and snuck onto the podium in third. He trailed Cody Overton and Mark Whitener while Trynt Lloyd and Jimmy Thomas completed the Top-5.
Switching to his Super Late Model on Sunday afternoon for the Blue/Gray 100 at Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.), Trent was running inside the Top-3 when a late flat tire doomed his run. He was scored 12th in the final running order.
